Fire districts were well represented at today’s Disaster Readiness for Safer Communities (D-RiSC) press conference held at the State Capitol. FDAC is one of the founding members of D-RiSC which is a coalition of organizations representing California’s fire chiefs, firefighters and local government officials fighting for increased funding for local fire agencies to combat wildfires and other climate-driven disasters by pre-positioning resources and improving communications. FDAC President Chief Steve Hall, Vice President Chief Steve Kovacs, Past President Chief Richard Pearce and many other fire district chiefs stood behind the podium as State Senators Mike McGuire and Bill Dodd and other state lawmakers shared their support for allocating $100 million in the State Budget to strengthen and modernize California’s mutual aid system.

Watch for future calls for action from FDAC in support of the D-RiSC request for additional funding for local government fire service response. All of the supporting associations of the coalition will be asking members to contact their state legislators to support this budget request and secure these essential funds to protect lives, property and the environment.

If you have any questions on how to get engaged in this call for action, please do not hesitate to contact Catherine ( or Carmen ( at the FDAC office for assistance. It is imperative we have strong participation by FDAC members to make our voices heard in the Capitol!
