Disaster Readiness for Safer Communities (D-RiSC), a statewide coalition of organizations representing California’s fire chiefs, firefighters and local governments committed to improving our disaster response capability, today issued the following statement in response to the May Revision of the Governor’s Proposed Budget.

The statement may be attributed to Fire Chief Mark Hartwig, president of the California Fire Chiefs Association:

“Despite the fact that the Governor’s May Revision does not include an additional $100 million being requested from many state legislators, fire chiefs, firefighters and local governments to modernize the state’s Mutual Aid System, we are encouraged by the growing support we have garnered so far to combat the ‘new normal’ of mega-fires.

“We look forward to continue working with state legislators and the governor’s office to secure state funding for pre-positioning of local firefighting resources and improved dispatch technology to protect communities from major disaster events.”
