D-RiSC Op-ed: California wildfires go from bad to worse in 2018

We need go no further than the terrible and deadly blazes in Idyllwild, Yosemite and Redding to see that California’s 2018 wildfires may be even worse than the devastating ones of 2017.

And protecting wildlands and communities from fire is today much more than deploying firefighters and equipment to attack and suppress a developing fire. It is about utilizing science, data and more than 100 years of fire history to predict with increasing accuracy when and where fires are most likely to occur, as well as how they will behave once ignited.
