USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas.  This assistance supports infrastructure improvements, business development, housing, and community facilities in rural areas.  USDA Rural Development can help fund a wide variety of projects such as fire stations, fire and rescue vehicles, and major equipment through the Community Facilities Program.  Loans are available to purchase buildings and new equipment, as well as to renovate and construct facilities.

Financing is available in areas with populations of 20,000 or less.  Community Facilities assistance is available to local public bodies, nonprofit organizations, and Federally Recognized Tribes.  Right now, the fixed interest rate is 3.00%.  Loan repayment terms may not be longer than the useful life of the facility or a maximum of 40 years, whichever is less.

Some applicants may also qualify for small grants to purchase major equipment.  Grants range from $20,000-$50,000 to qualified applicants.

Applications for this program are accepted year round.  Information about the program along with contact information can be found at
